FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

BASIC QUERIES

Is AutoMount – Magnetic Smartphone Mount safe to use with my smartphone?

YES! Magnets are completely safe to use along with any smartphone because these devices do not contain any spinning magnetic hard drives like your personal computer. Instead they use flash drives which are completely safe around magnets. We even use magnets in several flip type phone cases already!

Want more proof? See this video to see that a 180kg magnetic force cant do anything to a smartphone in anyway:

But do note that magnets are not safe to use along with credit cards, pacemakers and some other devices. You can find an incomplete list of such devices by CLICKING HERE.

How does AutoMount work?

AutoMount uses magnets that holds your phone firmly when you stick our metallic plate to your phone case. The metallic plates come with an adhesive tape and can be fixed to the inside or outside surface of your case. AutoMount secures itself to surfaces (typically car windshield or some dashboards) using a strong suction cup with 3m silicone gel sticky adhesive and is over thrice stronger than regular vacuum suction cups.

My smartphone compass won’t work when mounted on my AutoMount! How do I resolve this?

Some models of smartphones have compasses which may experience minimal interference when mounted onto AutoMount. This situation can be easily resolved by removing your smartphone from the mount and waving it in a figure-eight motion to reset the compass. When you place your smartphone back onto your mount, the compass should work again. Make sure the magnet is not in direct contact with the top edge of the device, as this is where electronic compasses are installed in many mobile devices.

Could my smartphone fall off AutoMount unexpectedly?

The magnetic force of your AutoMount will firmly hold your smartphone during regular use. However, please be advised of the following safety warnings:

Do not mount your AutoMount directly above hazardous objects; from the ceiling or other high locations; directly above your head or at a location where it may fall on another person; in a manner where improper usage may cause injuries to you or others around you; in areas where it will affect your ability to drive or block road vision; or in front of airbag areas inside a vehicle. Do not mount your AutoMount while operating a vehicle. Do not leave AutoMount under direct sunlight and/or around heat sources exceeding 120°F (50°C). Constantly check the suction strength of your AutoMount by pulling it lightly to ensure that the mount is secured properly. Over time suction power can decrease due to accumulation of dust/debris. moisture or slow seeping of air into the cup.

The sticky gel of the suction cup is not sticky anymore. How do i fix this?

The silicone gel might lose its sticky character over time due to dust/debris during many cycles of reinstallation. To fix this you can clean it lightly using warm water and allow it to air dry. The sticky property of the suction cup should return.

COMPATIBILITY

Which smartphone models are compatible with AutoMount?

AutoMount will be compatible with all phones that have a flat back. It will work along with phones with curved back such as Motorolo Moto G and Moto G2 but you will have to get a flexible case (Not made of hard plastic) so that the flat metallic plates can be adhered perfectly to the surface.

We are trying to generate a compatibility list and provide alternative compatibility solution for such cases. Do let us know if you have compatibility issues and we will try to provide you with a solution in the near future. Also, you are completely secured with the 30 days money back guarantee.

Which phone cases work with AutoMount?

This depends on where you choose to stick the metallic plates. If it is stuck outside your phone case you can use AutoMount along with any phone case, even with thick rugged ones. If it is stuck between your phone case and your smartphone typically it will work safely with cases with thickness less than 2mm because magnetic strength decreases when thicker cases are used.

For more information please check: “How to use my AutoMount” in the FAQ.

What surfaces will the suction cup stick to?

AutoMount is suitable for non-porous surfaces such as glass and smooth plastic. It might work on lightly textured dashboards, but for heavily textured dashboards air will seep in and hence AutoMount (Or any other vacuum suction cup) won’t stick permanently. In your car you can always mount AutoMount on your windshield which is what we recommend. For textured dashboard mounting, we recommend to try locking it on your desired region and then giving it a slight pull. If it feels strong enough we recommend taking it for a test drive for an hour and see if there is no loss in strength.

Dry the surface and AutoMount suction cup thoroughly before installing on a surface as water can weaken the suction power. We always recommend checking the suction strength periodically so that you will be aware whether air is seeping into the suction cup. We also recommend that you test AutoMount at low height for an hour before you install it in your vehicle.

Metallic Plate Installation
  • AutoMount comes with two metallic plates with adhesive backing– circular and rectangular. YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY METALLIC PLATE.
  • It is recommended that you stick the metallic plate on your phone case and not directly on your phone. This is because if you remove the plate from your phone in the future visible adhesive marks might remain.
  • Use only one metallic plate per phone case.

You have 3 choices to install the metallic plate.

Choice 1:

This choice is recommended if –

  • You have a thin phone case of thickness less than 2mm. Thicker cases might work but the magnetic force between the mount and the phone might decrease considerably. We recommend thin cases.
  • Your phone case has enough space to allow the plate to be placed between your case and your smartphone. The metallic plates that we supply are 0.3-0.35 mm thick and hence should work along with most rubber and plastic cases

Steps to Install the plate –

  1. Peel the protective sheet from your preferred metallic plate to reveal the adhesive backing.
  2. Locate the metallic plate between your phone case and smartphone. Make sure that the plate is located on the center of your phone case.
  3. Place the metallic plate adhesive surface on your phone case and apply pressure to stick it.
  4. Firmly lock your phone case on your smartphone. Make sure that all edges are completely sealed (If this is not possible it means that your phone case is not compatible with this choice. Go for the next choice or buy a compatible phone case).

Choice 2:

  • The metallic plate will be visible on the outside (rear side) of your phone case.
  • This choice will work with any phone case, even with thick rugged ones where Choice 1 will be a poor option due to decrease in magnetic strength.

Steps to Install the plate –

  1. Peel the protective sheet from your preferred metallic plate to reveal the adhesive backing.
  2. Locate the metallic plate directly on the rear side of your phone case . Make sure that the plate is located on the center of your phone case.
  3. Place the metallic plate adhesive surface on the rear side of your phone case and apply pressure to stick it.
  4. Firmly lock your phone case on your smartphone.
  5. Allow 1 hour for adhesive to set before use.

 Choice 3:

This choice can result in visible adhesive residue on the surface of your phone if you remove your metallic plate in the future. This is not a recommended choice.

Steps to Install the plate –

  1. Peel the protective sheet from your preferred metallic plate to reveal the adhesive backing.
  2. Locate the metallic plate directly on the rear side of your smartphone. Make sure that the plate is located on the center of your phone.
  3. Place the metallic plate adhesive surface on the rear side of your smartphone and apply pressure to stick it.
  4. Allow 1 hour for adhesive to set before use.

Note: In some phone cases the metallic plate might fit inside the battery cover. You can place the metallic plate behind the battery cover in such smartphones.

Magnetic Mount Installation
  1. Choose a suitable mounting surface inside your car. We recommend windshield, but any surface which is non porous (glass or metal surface), flat and smooth should work. Experiment with different surfaces in our vehicle if necessary. Do not mount on porous surfaces such as wood, fabric etc.
  2.  Clean the mounting surface properly and wipe dry. The mounting surface must be free from oil, dust and debris.
  3. Peel off the protective sheet from the silicone gel suction cup.
  4. Make sure that the suction quick locking switch is unlocked in upright position.
  5. Grip the mount at the base and apply pressure towards the surface. Push the suction quick locking switch down until it locks into place.
  6. Pull the mount slightly to test if it is securely  attached to the surface.
How do I mount and dismount my smartphone to my AutoMount?

Simple. Just place your smartphone on the rubber padded magnetic surface of your AutoMount. You are done with the mounting. Just pull your smartphone out of the mount to dismount.

Make sure that

  1. You have installed the metal plate on your device and the mount is installed securely in your car.
  2. You have placed the center of your smartphone rear surface to your AutoMount. Because that is where you installed your metallic plate and magnetic strength will decrease as you move towards the edge.
Removal (Magnetic Mount)
  1. Release the suction quick locking switch by lifting it to an upright position.
  2. Remove the silicone gel suction cup by pulling the suction cup release tab outwards from the mounting surface.
  3. If the suction cup has debris you can clean it lightly using warm water and allow it to air dry. The sticky property of the suction cup should return.
Removal (Metallic Plate)

Use a screw driver or blade to remove the metallic plate from the surface. This might result in visible adhesive residue on the surface.
